Print color planning

CMYK color picker and converter.

Adjust cyan, magenta, yellow, and black channels, convert HEX colors to CMYK approximations, inspect total ink coverage, and move the result into a complete palette workflow.

Convert colors for early print planning

Use the CMYK picker to explore process-color mixtures before handing a design to a printer. The values are useful for planning and communication, but a calibrated proof remains the production reference.

How to use this tool

  1. 1
    Set the CMYK channels

Move the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black sliders or type exact percentages.

  2. 2
    Review the digital preview

Color Pick converts the process-color estimate to HEX, RGB, and OKLCH so you can compare screen and print-oriented values.

  3. 3
    Check total ink coverage

Use the total ink estimate as an early warning when a mixture may be heavy for common print workflows.

  4. 4
    Continue in the Playground

Send the color into a starter palette, test contrast, map semantic roles, or open the Print Lab.

Useful for

  • Early packaging and brochure planning
  • HEX or RGB to CMYK approximation
  • Comparing screen and process-color values
  • Preparing a clearer printer handoff

What the values mean

CMYK percentages describe an estimated process-color mixture. HEX, RGB, and OKLCH are screen-oriented representations of that estimate, not a guarantee of the final printed appearance.

Important limitations

  • Browser calculations do not apply a printer-specific ICC profile.
  • Paper, ink, press conditions, coatings, and calibration can change the final color.
  • Confirm important brand and production colors with a physical proof approved by the printer.
Common questions

Answers before you export.

Is this an exact CMYK conversion?

No. It is a device-independent planning approximation. Exact production values require the correct ICC profile and the printer’s proofing workflow.

Why does the printed color differ from my screen?

Screens emit RGB light, while printing uses inks on a physical substrate. Gamut, brightness, paper color, and color management all affect the result.

What is total ink coverage?

It is the sum of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black percentages. High totals may require adjustment depending on the press and paper.
